Making Cards

Yesterday I worked on making a birthday card for my Mom.  The first card I made I was following criteria for a challenge on the Cricut Circle Blog.  My Mom loves anything with sparkle and animals so I thought this would be a cute card for her.  The zebra is cut from the Create A Critter Cricut cartridge along with the word "Fab."  The flower and circle shapes are from the George cartridge.  I used Stickles to add some sparkle to the zebra's black stripes and to the word "Fab" and the hearts that are attached to that.  My Mom and I are going to Myrtle Beach next week for a cross stitch retreat so I'm going to take this card with me to give to her with her presents.

The next card I made is the one that I put in the mail for my Mom to have on her birthday.  This one will be her favorite since it's got a cat on it.  My Mom is crazy for cats!!!!  The cat on the card is a layered piece that my Mom brought me back from England last  year.  The pieces came separate and I  used 3D foam adhesive squares to put it together so that she had lots of dimension.  She really turned out cute and it was hard not to keep her for myself!  But, I know my Mom will absolutely love it since it's a cat and has lots of sparkle!

Graduation Time!

My son, Andrew, is graduating in a few days.  I can't believe how fast he's grown.  I still picture him as a little blond 2 year old and here he is with dark brown hair, lots taller than me, and a fine young man.  Where did that time go?

Today we are having his graduation party.  He's invited lots and lots of friends so we are having it at a park.  We'll do a cookout and just have fun playing frisbee and badminton and chatting.

Andrew is as big of a Disney fan as I am and for a graduation trip, he requested a week at Disney World.  Of course, I wouldn't refuse that!!!!  His girlfriend bought him a Mickey Mouse graduation cap when we were there over spring break and presented it to him at his end-of-year drama banquet.

So, for his party, I made a Mickey Mouse cake with him wearing a green & gold mortar board.

More Disney!

I love Marie from The Aristocats movie.  I've only seen her at Disney World one time and I was so excited.  I started walking over to where she was and it was time for her to leave and I didn't get to have my photo taken with her.  So, on this past trip, it was my goal to get my photo taken with Marie.  Plus, I had some Marie pieces from a swap that I wanted to use on a scrapbook page.  We arrived at Epcot and I saw that she would be out in France.  Dave and I went over to France and hung out for about 20 minutes waiting and then, there she was.  I was second in line (behind a little girl!LOL) to get my photo taken.  Yay!!!!!

Also, since I only have a boy, I don't get to scrap pretty girl colors very often.  And, here my last two pages are done in pinks!!!!  Another Yay!!!!

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!

Disney Visit!!!!!

We spent 4 wonderful days at Disney World over the Veteran's Day weekend.  It was DS's 18th birthday celebration and it was such a fun trip.  We saw shows, rode rides, ate, hugged characters, watched fireworks, ate some more, and even went to Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party.  Oh what a great trip.

This is one scrapbook page I've put together from this trip.  We haven't visited with the characters much during the past few trips so on this trip I made it a goal to get our picture taken with as many characters as we could.  We did pretty well and my scrapbook will have lots of characters pages in it!!!!!

Pals Fall Fling

I just returned from a fun time at the Cross Stitch Pals retreat in Myrtle Beach. This is the 13th year of the retreat and my Mom and I have been going for 11 years. This year we were in a different hotel and we loved it. This is the view from our room. It was great to wake up to the sound of the waves and watch the sunrise each morning.

This is a view of the sunrise from our room. Awesome!!!

There was a video game/comic kind of convention also going on at the hotel and on Saturday afternoon, Superman stopped by looking for a safety pin! My Mom had to have her picture taken with "Batman." She couldn't remember which superhero he was!LOL

We celebrated my Mom's birthday while in Myrtle Beach. We had quite a fun time with champagne and 2 kooky hats my Mom found in England this past summer. They had been for the World Cup. Here's Priscilla, Rita, and Avona ready to party!
And my Mom, who is always ready to party!
This is what I was stitching on during the retreat. It was actually my Mom's birthday present, but I didn't get it finished before her birthday. I wrapped it up for her and gave it to her when we arrived in Myrtle Beach. At the time, it didn't have a head. Anyway, she opened it and asked "What is it?"LOL I took it back and hoped to get it finished before we left Myrtle Beach on Sunday. It didn't happen. But, my Mom will be coming to my house in a couple of weeks for my son's birthday so I'll have it finished by then.
Every year when we arrive in Myrtle Beach we drive by the entrance to Brookgreen Gardens. We always say we want to go there and see what it's like. Well, this year we did go! We walked the Low Country trail first and saw the animals (and got attacked by mosquitos). Next we went to the gardens. One of the first things we saw was this field full of people. We were trying to figure out what they were doing or watching when we realized it was actually a field of scarecrows!LOL

Here is a photo of me with one of the scarecrows!
I'm going to close this out with a few photos that show how pretty Brookgreen Gardens is. If you are ever in Myrtle Beach, this place is definitely worth visiting.

Long Time!

I seem to be really bad at this blog stuff. I haven't updated in months! I'm going to try and be better at this.

An update on what's happening:

- I've been teaching my first SDU class at Michaels this month. We've gotten through 2 of the 4 classes and it's going really well. Actually teaching the class has taught me a few things that I need to fix for the next go round.

- I'm getting ready to go to a cross stitch retreat in Myrtle Beach. My Mom and I have been going with this group for 12 years now! It's so much fun. I don't cross stitch as much as I used to because I found scrapbooking and that's my first love now.

I'm a member of the Cricut Circle and a challenge we had for this week was to make something pink and use glitter, jewels, and/or flourishes. I made this card, which is a birthday card for my Mom. It's a bit gawdy, in my mind, but it's perfect for my Mom. She loves bling and sparkle. Cats are her favorite and since she's British, she loves to be the Queen. I'll be throwing her a Birthday Queen themed party while we are the beach next week.

SDU

A couple of months ago I went through the certification process to become an SDU instructor. Yesterday I received my certificate and pin!!! I feel official now. I work part-time at Michaels and I was very excited when this opportunity to teach scrapbook classes there came up. I can't wait to teach my first class. Hopefully, that'll be soon!

This Friday is an all day crop at Michaels and I get to work it. I'm planning to work on a board/poster to promote SDU at the crop. Below is the page I created to put on the board. I used only supplies found at Michaels to make it.
